Newhalem River Loop Trail |
The River Loop Trail can be accessed from a variety of starting/ending points including the Visitor Center, Loop A, the walk-in sites and other trails. The Loop is about 1-3/4 miles. It is an easy walk almost no elevation change and several benches along the way to rest. The loop wanders through the forest with about half of the trail very close to the river. We began our walk at Loop A and returned to the campground at the Loop B restroom. The photos below are in order left to right the down. The river, several dams and lakes are all part of a power generation system. A siren sounds to warn of high water. I was concerned when the siren sounded multiple times during our walk. We were right next to the river and a lot of the trial is only a foot or two above the water level. I didn't know the siren is also sounded to designate lunch beginning and end for Seattle City Light employees, but now you do. |
